Why Boudoir? Now taking bookings for a Nov. 6th & 7th Hotel Suite Shoot.

Boudoir is one of the fastest growing areas of photography, but why?

Couples today are often separated by business trips, deployments, even the daily grind can extinguish a romantic spark. Boudoir is a great way to show your significant other that you are thinking of them and put more sizzle back into your relationship. Boudoir photography uses lighting, lingerie and and looks to create sensual images. Brides often have an album of boudoir style photographs made as a present for their soon to be husbands. Other common themes for boudoir photography are anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine's Day, weight loss, any form of body change or alteration (breast augmentation or reduction, etc.), and for soldiers overseas.

So how do you accomplish a perfect Boudoir shoot? First, do your research. Pick the best photographer for you. Most women are more at home with a female photographer, but also make sure it is someone that you can be comfortable around. Location is also important, would you feel more comfortable at home or would swanky hotel sheets put you at ease? Most photographers will cater to you. Also, discuss with your photographer, any areas of your body that you are worried about showcasing. Stretch marks can be covered up, waists can be slimmed, lifts and tucks are easy using Photoshop.

Second, do your shopping. Pick three or four different looks that you want feature. Remember to consider your body type and any special assets that you would like to highlight. You can go for a classic look with lace lingerie and nylons, try something a little different like a a 50's style pin-up outfit or even don one of your husbands button down shirts.

Next, remember details count. Bows for your hair, thigh high stockings, jeweled barrettes, all help to pull off the whole package. Is your hubby into the guitar or does he have a favorite hat? Bring them! Having something in your hands will also make you feel more comfortable and less fidgety.

Fourth, think transitions. Typical boudoir shoots are 2-3 hours long and you will want to make the most of that time. Start with the most elegant look. If you are going for a sleek up-do, make sure that is shot first, then you can put your hair down and even try a bit more rumpled look. You will want each of your looks to go from one to the next easily. Having to re-curl hair, or completely change your make-up will take time and you may not get through all of your outfits.

Lastly, remember to have fun. If you are not at ease, it will show in your smile. It may help to bring a friend orsomeone that will make you more comfortable and will help you with any outfit changes. Champagne helps too!

Family Christmas Shoots and the cutest little bear...

Bella Vie has a few newborn shoots coming up and in my eternal quest for adorable ideas, I ran across this:


This is made by the wechoosejoy shop on etsy.com. They are a handmade baby boutique and we all love handmade! They have great stuff for newborns, toddlers and kids. Check out their shop here.

Doesn't that baby just look so snuggly in that soft blanket and adorable hat. I think it's time to break out my crochet needle! I've also located patterns for an owl, frog, and a shark! If you are looking for amazing handicrafts for your baby, check out etsy.com. You can find designs or if you are craftily-challenged you can buy them already made.

By the way the photographer who did this shoot is Chubby Cheek Photography located in North Houston and has some of the most adorable kids photography. To all my friends and family in Houston, if you want to book a shoot with them, you need to do it soon! They are advancing booking for January at the moment.

They are an inexpensive alternative to a full 1-2 hour shoot, which can be a little rough on small ones. Even though things are a little tight this time of year, you can still have your family photos professionally done for the most amazing Christmas Cards.

Your family will receive 15 professionally photoshopped images, a CD with all of your images and for a small bit more Bella Vie will help design, print and add personal touches to your Christmas Cards (price varies on complexity and amount needed).

Wrap-Up for Molly and Sheri

This was such a fun shoot with three generations, two gorgeous babies, three wonderful sisters, their fantastic mom and one great dane. I've known the family since I was little, but I haven't seen them in years. It was so wonderful to see how everyone has developed, the relationships that have been built and the families that have started.


I'm so happy we did this shoot when we did, since just last week Lady, the Great Dane past away unexpectedly. Having lost 2 dogs recently myself, I am so happy to have the chance to give Molly such beautiful memories with her baby.
